Text tools

Count, convert, compare and clean up text.

About text tools

The text tools help with writing and editing: counting words, characters and reading time, checking text against platform limits, switching text between upper, lower, title and other cases, turning titles into URL slugs, comparing two versions line by line, and sorting lists or removing their duplicate lines.

Results update as you type, so you can paste a draft, see the numbers or changes immediately, and copy the result.

Questions

How are words counted?

The way word processors count them: anything separated by spaces that contains a letter or number is a word, so “well-known” and “3.14” each count once. Reading time assumes 238 words per minute.

How does the text comparison work?

It compares the two texts line by line and marks lines that were added or removed. You can ignore differences in case and whitespace.

Can I remove duplicate lines from a list?

Yes. Remove duplicate lines keeps the list in its original order, and Sort lines can alphabetize it, remove duplicates and drop blank lines in one go.
