- Keep the classic “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet” opening, or turn it off for fully random text.
- Copy the text into your design, mockup or template.
How much text do I need?
| Filling | Try |
|---|---|
| A button or label | 2–4 words |
| A headline | 6–10 words |
| A card or product description | 2–3 sentences |
| A blog post layout | 4–6 paragraphs |
Where does lorem ipsum come from?
It's a scrambled excerpt of De finibus bonorum et malorum, a book on ethics by Cicero from 45 BC. An unknown printer is thought to have used it for a type specimen book in the 1500s, and it has been the design industry's standard filler ever since.
Common uses
- Website and app mockups. Fill headings, cards and articles in a design mockup with placeholder paragraphs before the real copy is written.
- Testing a template or theme. See how a blog theme, email template or CMS layout copes with long paragraphs and short snippets by generating text of different lengths.
- Text of an exact length. Need exactly 50 words to see how a product description fits its box? Choose Words, set 50, and paste the result.
