How to compress an image to 50 KB

  1. Drop your photo into the box above, or choose a file. iPhone HEIC photos work too.
  2. The maximum is set to 50 KB. If your form says something like “20 KB to 50 KB”, type 20 as the minimum.
  3. Check the size, quality and dimensions in the result panel.
  4. Select Download and upload the JPG to your form.

Why 50 KB is such a common limit

Application portals store photos for every applicant, often hundreds of thousands of them, and show them on admit cards and ID documents at a small size. 50 KB is enough for a sharp passport-size photo, so many forms settle on it, often with a minimum of 10 or 20 KB to stop blurry, tiny uploads.

Checklist before you upload

  • Size in range. The result shows the exact size. It is always under your maximum.
  • Pixel size, if the form lists one. This page keeps your photo's shape. If the form needs exact dimensions such as 200×230 px, use the exam photo resizer instead.
  • Format. The download is a .jpg, the format almost every form accepts.
  • The photo itself. Recent, face clearly visible, plain light background: forms check these by eye, and no compression tool can fix them.

Common uses

  • Exam and recruitment applications. Many exam and job portals in India ask for a photo of a few tens of kilobytes. Set the range from the notification and get a JPG that the upload page accepts first time.
  • Profile photo on an official portal. Government service portals, university admissions and bank KYC pages often cap profile photos around 50 KB. One drop gives you a file that fits.
  • Re-uploading a rejected photo. If a site said your photo is too large, open that same photo here with 50 KB as the maximum and download a version that's guaranteed to be under it.

Questions

How do I reduce a photo to 50 KB without losing quality?

Start from the original photo, not a screenshot of it, and crop away anything the form doesn't need. Then let the tool pick the highest quality under 50 KB. For a passport-size photo that's usually high enough that you won't see a difference.

The form says the photo must be between 20 KB and 50 KB. What do I enter?

Enter 50 as the maximum and 20 as the minimum. The file will land inside that range whichever way the site counts kilobytes.

Does compressing to 50 KB change the photo's dimensions?

Not if it can be avoided. Quality goes down first. Only a large photo that still won't fit at a low quality is scaled down, and the result shows the final width and height.
